    Default Labour Pains

A few of you hinted at amusing stories as your wife/partner gave birth. Now is the time to spill the beans.

My wife wasn't in the most calm state of mind when she asked me to take her TENs machine off. I made the mistake of turning both dials the wrong way resulting in whacking up both the voltage & frequency to the max .

It's only amusing now. It wasn't 10 years ago.

To fresh in my mind to discuss. They are not even out of hospital yet!!! All I will say is that I felt totally useless. What the hell is me breathing deeply holding her hand going to do to help fire the baby out of a gap that I never thought would fit a baby out of?

    Waters broke 2am Monday.
Went to hospital at 8am Tuesday morning after Donna spent much of Monday evening and night in pain.
Midwife advised us to go home as nothing was happening, so instead of spending the next 8 hours in hospital, go home and come back later on. Went home 1cm dilated.
Went back to hospital at 4.30pm where she was 5cm dilated.
Then contractions got worse, medication level increased and what followed was the longest night ever. By 12midnight on 16th Jan she was pushing. Then at 2.07am, somehow, she came out and made us all very very happy. What a rewarding job being a midwife must be.

Just after wife had given birth to our first child, she says to me i don't feel right down there. I pulled back the covers and saw more blood than the beach landing in 'Saving Private Ryan' Worried by this i pressed the buzzer for the midwife who came in, had a look, and shoved some clean towels down there to soak it up. She then fired me a withering look, as if to say 'Don't you know anything' and disappeared again, muttering, 'We are very busy tonight' Wife says to me 'I feel better now' Felt about as much use as a chocolate fireguard Massive respect to all women who give birth

Amusing stories we have had some laughs over this - When Tracey went in to have Harry we went in to hospital at 5pm as planned, Tracey was asked to get into a bed and so on. she was sat up in bed tucking into a 'roast dinner' of sorts in the hospital. I am sat watching her, bloody starving. Nurse comes in and checks her and says we need to go to the delivery room straight away you are x amount dialated already.

So off we toddle with Tracey in Bed to the delivery room. Gets in the delivery room and we are sat waiting and waiting. Tracey ends up with bad back pain about 8.45pm while I am sat next to the bed saying you will be okay take deep breaths etc... it was goodnight viennna for me as I fainted yes 'fainted' and keeled over on to the bed next to her. The next thing I know both of us are side by side with me on a recliner with more of the staff seeing to me than Tracey. At this point Tracey is saying excuse me can I have more gas and air please. The next thing Harry arrives with the both of us side by side in two beds.

It was like something from a carry on film. Hope its not the same this time round. Mind you I had had nothing to eat since breakfast. Some story and intro to the world for Harry to learn about in years to come.

It wasn't the sentiment, it was the detail!
