    Lakeland 100

    Hi
A new event for 2008 you may be interested in.

    Lakeland 100 Trail Race

The Lakeland 100 takes place on the weekend of August 9th & 10th and is the most spectacular long distance trail race which has ever taken place within the UK. The circular route encompasses the whole of the lakeland fells and consists entirely of public bridleways and footpaths. The route starts in Coniston and heads South before completing a clockwise loop which takes in the Dunnerdale fells, Eskdale, Wasdale and Buttermere before arriving in Keswick. From here the route heads to Matterdale and continues over to Haweswater before returning via Kentmere, Ambleside and Elterwater to the finish at Coniston. In addition to the Lakeland 100 there will also be a 50 mile supporting event which starts from Matterdale and finishes at coniston, both the 100 and the 50 mile event start at 7.00am on the Saturday morning and the final cut off will be 7.00pm Sunday evening

Not bad for that sort of event. I think insisting on GPS is taking some of the fun out of it though.

The use of GPS puts me rigt off, are you also insisting on the ability to use a compass as well as to read a map is essential because in my opinion the two go hand in hand, if so that then negates the need for GPS.

Looks interesting, but it's the same weekend as a new race in Scotland up 9 Munros around Glenshee.
I don't understand why they insist on GPS.
I've run round all the hills in the Lakes, in every type of weather, without ever owning a GPS device.

I just can`t get the concept of this right in my head, ie you pay 75 quid to download a route into a GPS then go out and follow it, surely that is nothing more than a guided tour of somebody elses route choice but usuing a VIRTUAL GUIDE.
Where`s the fun in that or am i missing something.

Agree on the WHW Iain i will do it again after all 1 goblet hardly makes a set, again that is another thing that mAkes the WHW race a little less enjoyable the fact that you have all those lovely summits around you and you don`t set foot on one of them and it seems the Lakeland 100 is doing the same.

    Shame really

Think I'll try and do that. 3 weeks before the UTMB so about perfect as a last big run.
