awwwwww
I quite like the idea of a pulling out my sandwiches, banana, flask and picnic blanket at the top... but seriously...
What have you got to loose by taking some substantial sustenance on longer races, i.e. those over 10 miles ?? After all, to run needs energy, and as far as I'm aware from the distant Biology lessons, we can't fuel ourselves purely from our egos, even though some may be very oversized? Any biology geeks feel free to correct me?
All this debate over, what, 100grams?
Most of the runners at Lad's Leap had at least that weight in beards...
One runner at the Grindleford Gallop last week had a pipe and tobacco!
I'm happy to carry a lump of flapjack or malt loaf, since I'm not a good enough runner to need the extra second it might cost me to carry it round.
energy gels are supposed to be good, although i'm no expert.
I'm just helping others to feel the glory of winning....
Used 'em before a couple o' times but found them less pleasant (or effective) than good ol' jelly babies. When your throat is dry they're a real pain to get down.
I know that I'm a light weight, but on long sunday training runs I always take a Mars bar or similar, if not because I need the energy then just for something to look forward to mid-run. Mars bars are good because they're packed with glucose, fuel for the brain as well as the legs and they're also a medium GI food so the energy lasts a bit longer than sweets.
