    I have to say, that I am really pleased to have got upto the Lakes for this...fantastic day out. Up at 04.50; picked up Daz, got there in good time and with good company and humour, the Fell Pony Collective had a reet good canter (well, trot really) in neigh-on perfect conditions. The views were awesome; the sun not too oppressive and the company grand. Inevitably, we splintered up a bit and the tussocky terrain meant loads of heather bashing, but it was a bloody good day out...one of the finest I have had in the Lakes.:thumbup:

    Mr & Mrs. Amex, pleased to see you again. Phil, I hope your blisters haven't been too bad.... I ended up with a couple of good'uns. Ady (of Accy), thanks for your company....pleased to have made your acquaintance....you dragged me along a bit. Daz, thanks for car sharing....see you next weekend... Teggs Nose Race if anyone fancies it?

    I did 7.25. We were a bit leisurely at times (enjoyed the soup at Skiddaw House in the sun) and a mix up at the start meant my clock started about 5-6 minutes before I left, but who cares... Lovely day out.

    Now, who do we see to ensure that the Lakes are always maintained in such weather?:wink:

    After frying in the heat on the recce, as well as nearly breaking my neck coming off Carrock, it would have been easy to stay at home for this, but I am glad I joined the Ponies.

    Nice one LR!! Its a lovely bit of the lakes that! Its great for a Summer Holidays mid-week bimble out! As I've stated here a couple of times I really wish I could have done it, I live about 10 miles away on the Solway! Sounds like you all had a great day out!

    Re: Old Crown Round

    I found that hard.
    Very hard.
    Even at a pace 2 hours slower than LR's.

    It wasn't helped by the disappearance of five patches of skin from my feet and heels within the first four miles.
    Neither was it helped by the heat; nor by the plummeting of my blood sugar levels, which left me lying in a heap in the heather coming off Knott.

    However, how can a day in Lakes ever be a source of regret?

    The company was excellent, at least while it lasted;
    the views were stupendous, especially off Skiddaw;
    the beers were eminently quaffable, particularly the Sharp Edge on Blencathra (2 top ups!);
    and a slab of cherry and coconut traybake got me moving again, eventually, and by the time I got to High Pike I was feeling strong enough to storm the last three miles (well, relatively).

    Plus, I really enjoyed the deluge at the end. If I'd been faster I'd have missed that. :thumbup:

    The spirit of the event! A swift swig of 'Sharp Edge' atop Blencathra.

    Big thanks to all who had a hand in putting the event on and great to meet a few 'new' Fell Ponies amongst others.
