    Added extras & bulging sacks

Here's a thing. I have noticed that despite the conditions, despite the length of race some people set off with next to nothing and others set off with rucksacks that wouldn't look out of place on the back of the average Napalese Sherpa. So what to these people take with them apart from the stipulated kit? There has been much debate about PLB's and GPS, and I on occasion have been known to carry a small pack of plasters/tape or a spare pair of socks. I know of someone who set off on a road marathon with a whole malt loaf. I even heard a story of someone doing a fell race with a food blender in his rucksack as he had come on the bus and was going into town afterwards as it had developed a fault...

So come on, what's the most bizarre item you've carried in a race?

I ran last year's Three Peaks with some inner tubes in my bag. Not the heaviest of things to cart around with you, but when I reached into my bag at the top of Whernside to get something to eat and pulled them out instead, I did wonder if I hadn't started hallucinating.
