    New sport - the Diathlon?

Triathlons, Duathlons and Biathlons are well known, established sports. They are becoming more and more popular in the UK, with the obvious exception of the Biathlon due to our lack of guns and snow!

I believe that there is a hole in the market for an alternative to the Biathlon, an alternative with a distinctly more British taste - the Diathlon, a combination of Fell running and Archery! The sport would function in a similar way to the Biathlon, with the competitors lugging their bow and arrows around the hills to a number of checkpoints, where they have to fire at a target before progressing to the next checkpoint.

What does everyone think of the idea? Any suggestions and criticism welcomed.

I think that it's a terrific new way to scare the pants off Hillwalkers!

I can just imagine groups of fell runners in their Ron Hill tracksters carrying bows and taking pot shots at ramblers.

Very Robin Hood! Although I don't think you can get tracksters in emerald green.....

You certainly used to be able to not so sure any more.

How about the first target being queue jumpers at stiles...

Some good alternative applications for the bow here I hadn't thought of. Maybe it should become part of the mandatory kit in normal races?

Good practice for when civilization collapses and everyone takes to the mountains to escape the chaos in towns and cities!
