Although I should ad the caveat that the Grisedale Horseshoe is not a suitable race for novices so if you haven't got experience of running on the high fells and a good level of fitness you shouldn't really attempt it.

Shelf Moor in Glossop is another good race on that weekend.

I have to confess tnat I haven't actually done either - Grisedale is on my to do list although I do quite fancy the Derwentwater trail race too, but as Shelf Moor is in my back yard I would probably do that one - it is a good one for a novice I reckon too - take it easy on the big climb and have your map and compass on standby for the run off the top like Geoff B and others did(n't) last year !
