    General Fell Training

Having done road running for a few years with a few fell races thrown in i decided from 2008 onwards id focus on Fell Running as we all know its far superior to road running on the soul.I was just wondering on how people train in terms of mileage Running and Cycling specific for Fell Running.Im used to training twice a day and im doing about 50-70 miles running(intervals,Tempo,Long fell runs,Hill reps etc) and around 70-100 miles Cycling(mostly 2hr rides)per week.Have i got the right idea?any thought by more experienced Fell Runners would be greatly appreciated.Thankyou

i'd think training twice a day would have given you higher millages than you say. I've come from a cycling background myself, and now tend to think of off-road running in terms of time on feet, rather than miles covered, terrain makes so much difference. Your cycling training should give you strength on climbs, but never avoid the hills, cycling or running, always get the hills in.

As JD says, you can't beat fell miles, so get out in the hills as much as you can. Get a feel for how your body copes with training and racing, then do what works for you. Race lots of different distances and figure out what you enjoy. Worry about the training specifics later.
Fitness can't be stored. It must be earned over and over, indefinitely.
