    Mournes Race

Are many going over, we have quite a decent turn out, petty we've lost one of our stronger blokes in Rob Greenwood due to ITBS.

Anyone know of the best forecast for the Mournes?

    Any route tips?

Carn to Doan seems the main one, is that a direct line around the southern shores of the Lough or remain on higher ground and go the longer distance?

From Carn, drop down towards the lough but not all the way - carefully double back under the flank of the ridge you've just been following and pick up a trod round towards Doan. Saves loads.

You can buy 1:25000 maps of the Mournes in the Newcastle tourist office - a big yellow building on the left (Irish Sea side) of the main drag through Newcastle as you drive south through the town. As Irish maps go, it's very good - but watch how you set up your GPS, it's a different grid.

Photographs of the start and the first two peaks at the following web site:

    Note - use Google.

The photogrpahs were taken at the 2007 Seven Sevens Race which runs over these two peaks - Meelmore and Meelbeg. The photographs are at the end of the gallery.
