Thread: fitted kitchen advice

    Re: fitted kitchen advice

My Grandad built his kitchen cheaply out of the wood from old orange crates, wired it himself, etc. about 40 years later it's still going strong (& no it doesn't look a mess). Perhaps you could have a crack at that Daz????

    Well quarry the stone yourself!!!

Anyway it looks really good, that was in the days when everything was built to last (including orange crates).

but nowadays you need in built scales, microwave, spiceracks, and all that shit.

but your correct its a woman thing.
Yup, me too. I bought mine (in our old house) from B & Q and fitted it myself. It wasn't too hard to be honest.

...but having said that, my ethics have changed since then and I'd be more inclined to take Allan's Grandad's approach. Amazing what you can do with a bit of old timber.

Spending something like £5,000 on plastic coated chipboard doesn't strike me as a good idea any more.

If your current layout is ok, why don't you just get new doors and a worktop?
Save loads of cash on the framework...plus fitting would be a lot easier.

Makes me sound like a right old cheapskate?!
