Thread: Moelwyn Peaks Race

    Re: Moelwyn Peaks Race

Navigation always used to be a problem with several tricky to locate descents, I should know I missed them both several times! However the organisers set out last year to produce one of the best marshalled events on the calendar, there was a marshall at every awkward point and a great many inbetween and they have promised the same this year. Consequently it's a great race for people unfamiliar with the area or relative newcomers who want to have a go at a race over 'real' mountain terrain. Watch out though, when glancing at the map or up at the mountains (if you can see them) it looks like two big summits then run for home, but there's a third peak waiting, Moel-yr-Hydd, it's a 'great sting in the tail' for those who went off too fast.

Thoroughly recomended, give it a go you won't be disappointed.

Looks like some of teamdolly (www.teamdolly.co.uk)
will be out and about taking pictures and video rather than radio links for a change.
Checkout the site sometime after the race if you would like pictures .

The sting in the tail is this hill behind the guy jumping the fence (long story but we told him it was electrified - it isn't..:-))

It's gradual from here but there's a steady climb up from the Dam wall as well

Great last descent then rough, but fast.

I'll settle for top 3. Math should blow up by the quarry, that's his 2 miles of running up..I was catching him at Foel Lus, another 6 laps and he was mine...:-)

If it's the one on the final climb past the dam - I ran into that fence 2 years ago and it certainly was electrified then! Steve Llan Jones can vouch for this cos he saw me struggling and laughed his head off. I got stuck in it but the shock revived tired legs and I made it back with renewed vigour way ahead of Steve!
