    is this ok?
Yes. The only thing you have to be wary of is that on the longer races they might have timed cut off points that, if plodding too slowly, you will miss. Even then though you can enter some of the Long Distance Walking Association 'walks' as a runner and not have to worry about cut offs. The Malhamdale Meander this weekend coming is a good example.

Stolly you should know never to poo poo a poo poo-er, as eventually every one is poo pooing every one else. A classic scene

I started running aged 43 and have come last a couple of times. Finished the 3P this weekend for the first time albeit near the back.

Mainly run shorter Bofra type races and just race against the same few people. The winners have normally gone home before I'm back, but still have a great time.

Are you all talking about the Yorkshire 3 peaks?

I think General Meltchet was right about the poo pooing

sbrt, as you're in Derby, there are plenty of summer evening races not too far away. They're generally fairly low key, and attract people of all abilities. Get out and give a few of them a try, and don't get despondent if you come in towards the end of the field - we all have to begin somewhere.

    Re: Is fellrunning suitable fo

I only started last year aged 43. Stoodley pike being my first race, a painful 3.5 mile after a knackering early shift. Ain't run that much since my twenties, cycled a fair bit in between, road and mountain bike. Got the crazy idea to enter the 3 Peaks Cyclocross last year and a friend suggested some fell running as training, had a go, joined the Fell Ponies and ain't looked back since. Have had a go at every distance up to 33 miles, even got crazy ideas of a Bob Graham attempt before i'm 50 My advice would be get your walshes on and get out there, fell runners in general are friendly, humourous people, always ready to give advice and inspiration. Anythings possible, sbrt, all you need is full body cover, map, whistle, compass, emergency food, a sense of humour and a big smile, oh and an understanding wife helps if your married, yes dear i know your supporting me more now, thats why a gave you a mention
    Enjoy yourself
