    Re: Mount Famine

Might be able to help... I'll check the home front and be in touch. I was hoping to run it anyway, having not done it before, so I'll check with the Operations Director.

It's the Mount Famine race this Saturday (part of the Hayfield 3 Days in May series) and organiser Mark Boulton has asked me to put out a request for helpers.

Please contact Mark directly if you can lend a hand on Saturday - 01663 749253, Mobile: 07873 115685, email: [email protected]

    Race details here, as usual.

    Will I, won't I?

I wanted to do this race two years ago, but my wife invited some friends to visit us on that Saturday.

Then I was all set for it last year, but my Achilles tendon got a rather painful tendinopathy in the week before the race.

This year I apparently acquired plantar fasciitis the weekend before last, but I seem to have made a miraculous recovery (presumably it wasn't PF). What can stop me now? Well, Northern Rail, maybe. The 10:02 arrival at New Mills Central should leave me plenty of time to cycle up to Hayfield, but if that train is late . . .

You didn't mention train strike. There is one due, not sure when.

According to Northern Rail website, the next strike is on Tuesday 30th May (i.e. the staff are having an extended Bank Holiday break!). I actually went to the Wardle Skyline race on the day of the last strike: they were running enough trains on the Manchester-Todmorden route.

It's a good race, although to it full justice you need to complete all 3 in the series.

Lantern Pike is also a crackers.

May Queen is a warm up to get the legs moving.

Of course, Stagger is absolutely right.

    May Queen - Friday 19th May 7:30pm
    Mount Famine - Saturday 20th May 11:00am
Lantern Pike Dash - Sunday 21st May 11:00am

All the details you need are here.

I'll see you at the bottom of Dimpus Clough on Saturday, making sure nobody cuts the corner!

I will be turning out for this one tomorrow
it will be my first Mount Famine at the 10th opportunity since I started fell racing
I was intrigued myself to know exactly why I'd never made it before, so looking back in my records my excuses are as follows:

    2008 - Fairfield
    2009 - Lady Slugge racing
    2010 - Daughter's Birthday/Party
2011 - Leaden Boot (LDWA Challenge type event)
    2012 - Daughter's Birthday/Party
    2013 - Daughter's Birthday/Party/ week before BG attempt
    2014 - OCT
    2015 - Daughter's Birthday/Party
2016 - Heart Ablation Procedure Recovery

2017 - Daughter going for Birthday treat with mother/grandmother in afternoon... but me/car not needed til evening... so can FINALLY sneak away to sunny Hayfield!!
Scramble the rock face through the glare of morning sun — to run
