    Is coaching worthwhile?
I've never had a coach and had mixed results, bad results normally down to overtraining. I'm starting to think I need help planning my schedules to avoid overtraining and getting ill (as I am at the moment )

Very important I believe. Having the right coach is an important aspect of my trainig. Without Bob I wouldn't be running like I am.

If you think you need a coach to run up & down a few mountains your'e in the wrong sport. Get your bum bag on & get out onto the race routes with other good runners who know the form, not just people that 'talk a good race'.

Er..we are talking about Fell Running aren't we.

Im kinda a fan of self coaching also. I dont believe that anyone knows your own body, your motivation and ability like yourself. I take little bits of advice from everyone I meet and then throw the bits I like and the bits which seem to make 'good sense' into the melting pot, and follow my own little program. No doubt coaches have knowledge but like everything else...there's always someone who knows more. I think you can learn a lot by trial and error.

    Interesting read that.

I've done a few fell races in the last couple of years but only recently actually done any training in the hills and that article has highlighted a few issues and answered a few questions, I found it usefull, Thanks.

Thanks for your thoughts - your opinion is similar to mine Fellmonster, but thats beginning to change now!
RR although I knew you do sessions with Bob, always had the impression you were more self-coached...either way, I respect your opinion + will speak to the coaches at my club when I get the chance. Is it Bob who recommends you drink lots of coke?!
