    Coppice In Accrington

Has anyone got further info on what developments are underway up here? Lots of stakes and blue spray markings dotted about and some new sturdy fences errected as I noticed yesterday, 1 of which blocked a well worn path (SD77512 28825) and another at SD77440 28877 which replaced an old fence that has had a section missing for years which had become a well used path also. These were just 2 that I saw yesterday. Perhaps when I go up this afternoon I will come across a coin operated turnstile and a burger van?

Ady, if it's a recognised wildlife / recreation area; try 'googling' The Lancashire Wildlife Trust and contact them. Their 'HQ' is in Cuerden Valley Park at Bamber Bridge. Clare Kenny is their fund raising manager. Which reminds me - her series of trail races in Cuerden Valley are due to start in a few weeks time! I ran the last one in 2007 and it was a good event.

I emailed last week but no reply as yet. I have searched the evening Telegraph and not found much. I saw somthing the other week that had a map with the area outlined but everything was vague at best (and I have forgetten where I saw it!). I suspect some more fences, a few forms, some signage and maybe an expensive sculpture akin to the singing ringing tree on Crown Point or such like.

Hopey has told me about the development of a mountain bike track on Healey Nab (Chorley). Maybe this is something similar... ?

And they've made a right mess, a lot of trees have been felled to make room for it.

An unofficial track has been made through the woods, with jumps going over the footpaths, a bit dangerous for running and walking through the woods now ! Shame as my son loves walking through the woods and the people who are using the unofficial track have no care for other people using the footpaths.

The scar that's been left in the woods will take years to recover!

I must point out I have nothing against mtb's, just ignorant people who ride down hills with there brakes on and skidding down the hill (whats the point!) and when they have no care for people who get in the way!

I hope the Coppice thing is not more of the same but mountain biking is a boom activity now so you never know...
