Up till now I had only seen and heard Cuckoo's on my holiday to Rum, yes there were loads in Scotland. Lovely sighting yesterday on Barden Moor, by the lower reservoir.
Apparently the Cuckoo's that come to the East migrate over Malta, Sicily and up Italy where they are shot, West Coast cuckoo's come up through France and Spain and have a better chance of surviving. This has been shown by radio tracking birds.

A cuckoo calling from the direction of Causey Pike, as we trotted down the Newlands Valley to the finish of Allan McKeown's successful (21.32) BG just this last Saturday evening.
I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!

Pre-work dawn run along Grand Union Canal from Elthorne Park (Ealing) towards Southhall. A gem of a trail.
Loads of rabbits (I gave up counting), two magnificent white swans, and a fox, not to mention the multitude of bird-life.
Ran behind the 'County Asylum' (as Ealing Hospital was known 150 years ago) and through 3 bridges (one of IKB's last designs in 1859).
Beautiful morning in our Capital city. The Grand Union Canal sign said 193 miles to Birmingham - now there is an idea....
Off to catch the Central Line eastbound from Ealing Broadway to Stratford (Olympic Park).

We appear to have a lovely flock of Tree Sparrows coming to the feeder now! From being a fairly dull feeder its become quite nice with at least two species we've not had at previous homes!!

Try shooting with an air-rifle rather than a camera.

Good to see you posting on this thread Graham. However, I'm not entirely convinced you're completely grasped the spirit of the conversation. Maybe more Springwatch and less Peckinpah for a while?
