And there was me expecting a Peakland chiffchaff
Haha! Sorry Andy. Anyway, after a long weekend in Scotland today was the first day back on my bike to work... Sure enough, there were certainly 2, possibly 3, Chiffchaffs calling just by the Peak Forest Canal. And there were plenty of insects around when I was hanging the washing out yesterday evening, so there should be food for them.

    Great white egret?

Large, white heron-ish thing flew down to perch on a tree within view of my bedroom window. It's in the grounds of Moat Farm - the clue is in the name, although they have got a heron statue, presumably in an effort to prevent their moat being depleted of fish. It's still there, preening itself (the white egret, not the statue ).

A pair of red kites circling a field managed to scare a barn owl who was sat on a fence post.
The owl disappeared in to an out building and the kites set off after a wood pigeon.

Skylark hanging in the air, making a dreadful racket. Just wouldn't stop.
