    I agree.....I like the idea of marker pen on yer hand......but then that's usually because Im caught short on the old saftey pins front......I have a big bag full of them but can never locate it when i actually need it!

    It's funny - I was discussing this very topic with a friend after the Coniston race this year because I always thought that safety pins were essentially part of the monitoring system in that they keep the race number in place - where it can be seen by the marshals. Consequently I thought that it would be very strange that the FRA should encourage race organisers to stop providing this facility. However, I was informed that the "no pins" category was brought in unilaterally by the FRA calendar editor at the time because he hadn't managed to get hold of a supply of pins for his own race on a couple of occasions!
