Thanks Merry. Weather looking a bit blustery. Are the brace of Ponies trying to maintain anonymity? Looking forward to seeing you all at the Moot Hall.

    Re: BGR's on midsummer's day

[QUOTE=SteveS;138330]Out of interest, just how much clothing were people wearing who did get round?
I had 4 layers on top, including a fully waterproof hooded jacket, and my top half was as good as dry (only slightly damp inside my jacket from earlier exertion). Admitedly I was in (long lycra) shorts when it turned bad, but I've been out in colder conditions before and not found I've needed more on my legs than shorts.

    QUOTE]

Old Helly long sleeve base with Mountain equipment (old) short sleeve base over it. Shorts with cut off knee length helly tights.
Took 3 litres of water from Honister over Grey Knots, Brandreth and Green Gable, stashed water under a rock and dropped down Aaron Slack to Sty Head and then round to Mickledore (ish) arrived a bit late so dropped into Wasdale to see DPFR lads starting up Yewbarrow.
Pint of Wrynose, lovely beer, and a packet of crisps in Wasdale Head thhen a steady trek back up to Windy Gap and a 90 minute wait to distribute water to the needy, for some reason not one of them wanted any, strange isn't it.
Had a 2 man survival shelter with me at Windy Gap, does live up to its name, so was steaming during the wait.
People, BGers and walkers alike, passing on the col were being buffeted badly, a walker came up from honister way with a cape on (don't mean a small chicken either) and nearly took off as he cleared the top.
Ended up dumping the water and running in to Honister with several contenders, who all finished.
Ran through the woods down Newlands with Jim and Jim, personally think a much more pleasant route than the road.
If you camp at Thirlspot, don't buy food at the Kings Head, its extortionate and not very good.
Fancied something with chips after 11 hours on my feet, so ordered a mixed grill, £12.95 , and got 2 rashers of bacon, 1 small pork chop, some black pudding and 2 eggs, the "portion" of chips were 6 arranged like railway sleepers 2 on top of 2, 3 high. WHAT A RIP OFF.
    Chips in Keswick next time.
