I spent a lot of money on a HRM and used it twice! It told me nothing I did not know from listening to my body. I know when Im pushing hard and when I'm easy so why do you need a number to tell you that? The clue comes in how you feel over time as your performance improves.

LilNick,
I'm doing OK, I pushed myself too hard a week or so back and didn't do myself any favours.
Ok I ran 3 miles, which for me was too far too fast at the moment
I've had about a week off and went out again last night and just did a couple of miles to see how I felt, and suprisingly I found it quite comfortable, I'm going to take it easy for a week or so and stick to a couple of miles each time I go out and then start and build it up again.
lesson learnt, when legs go wobbly you've run far enough

You're going too easy on yourself. If you don't feel like running then walk. And try walk/run starting with 10 seconds easy run alternating with a minute walk or count to sixty, don't get too scientific. Whatever you do don't have another week off without moving. "You can always do something" is a motto that's always seen me right.
"I am not a number! I am a free man!"
Having read the rest of the thread I've got a feeling you already know all this. Sorry.
The motto's worth remembering though
"I am not a number! I am a free man!"
well the taking it easy bit kind of went out of the window anyway, I went for another run this evening. and already aranged another run with a friend for thursday.
Ha Ha! He's hooked!
