We have been enjoying the open adventure races for the last couple of years.
Organized by James Thurlow the events are always well planned, thought out and organised.
He puts on several open 5's each year which are a five hour score event involving fell running, mountain biking and navigation.
Martyn and I completed this years open 12 based from Hayfield yesterday. 12 hours of score event consisting of two legs in the dark (mountain biking and fell running) and two stages in the daylight (again biking and running.) Sandwiched in amongst are various special stages - for instance yesterday three of the controls were in Speedwell cavern and to reach them involved wading through waist - chest deep cold water, a further control at the top of the derwent valley was sunk in a deep pool in the stream so you had to dive down to get it, and in case 12 hours racing wasn't enough yesterdays event had a prologue - three controls were on the go ape course at Buxton.
There is also an open 24 (24 hour event) each year
