    Lowther Show Half Mara'

I'm thinking I may pop along this Friday to have a go at this one. My understanding is that it isnt particularly hilly or rough underfoot. The 9 quid fee is reasonable enough as that will also get you into the show too.

I've been wanting to have a go at this race for years, but through various circumstances i've never managed to achieve the start line and once again i can't do it this year either.

Good luck with it and lets have a course/race report.

I did this race a couple of years ago and its a fantastic race with great views its mainly bridleways and a few miles of road, but there are few areas for concerns around the farmyards and the last couple of miles can be a slog uphill depending how muddy the forest track is and then a sprint finish. Would do it again, but the Monday to Friday work day kills it. Good luck

Well it was a great race. Some tarmac miles early on and also on a couple of short occasions later. Not that I minded that at all as I used to run solely on tarmac for over 50m a week until i discovered what a joy the open fells can be.
No great climbs to overcome either, just some rolling moor/fell type open farmland.
Plenty of muddy bits to blast through although nothing technical - plenty of folk were in road shoes (re-styled in brown by the end).

On a personal note I have to report a poor performance. I was clear in 6th place with 3m to go, but instead of capitalising on my road experience and getting back to the 5th guy on a decent downhill section - I started to feel weak and was caught by an old adversary from Eden Runners. In the final mile I was also passed by two others and then to cap it off was outsprinted
    to the line by another.

So 10th place in the end. Not too bad i suppose - at least only blokes beat me today. (finished after 3 lasses at Kentmere)

Did this too. Legs feel shot now after all the roadrunning in Gladiators (which are now slick). Having moved a few mile from there I have picked up a few ideas for local runs now.

I was at Lowther yesterday being a 'tourist' for the day. Hope everyone enjoyed the run in the sun.

I think the 'posh lady' on the 'tannoy' needs a bit of education when it comes to running. She described the Lowther Run as a ''FUN RUN''. Then a slightly more knowledgable chap countered by stating it was actually a half marathon ~ although he did forget to add that there was 1500ft of climbing as well!

As it's classed as a 'CL' in the FRA calendar they are both wrong ~ it's a FELL RACE !
