Between 1983 and 1997 (aged 33 to 47) my times were:

    1.54.15 - 3.56.18
    1.32.12 - 3.43.53
    1.31.21 - 3.41.22
    1.31.10 - 3.33.05
    1.27.20 - 3.27.53
    1.27.53 - 3.20.11
    1.24.51 - 3.17.08
    1.28.35 - 3.12.57
    1.21.09 - 2.58.35
    1.19.39 - 2.59.17
    1.21.38 - 2.57.15
    1.18.43 - 2.52.14
    1.22.38 - 2.54.15

Make what you will of that!

Thanks Swoop. It;'s the Lancaster Half this weekend and 3 weeks to Berlin so this should be a good pointer....

1:25 is the aim - which would be a pb for me. Hope the weather stays cool/cold and dries up

Get over to Berlin a week early and do a 10K. When I ran 2.52.14 in Frankfurt in 1995 I had done the Rőthenbach 10K in 36.09 the week before!

Flights already booked so alas that's not possible. However, i was toying with doing a 10k race the previous week as there's a local one on, but thought it might be a bad idea the week before the marathon. Evidently not based on your experience. Might give it a go....

So Swiss you are thinking of sub 3 after all eh? Just as I predicted quite some time ago.

TBH the double it and add 10 seems to be borne out in many of the posts above

    Myself -
    Half PB =1:13:30
    Double it (2:27)
    add 10 2:37
    Marathon PB = 2:36:09

Aldi best in Berlin - if you see my mate (orange vest of Border Harr') and he's heading for beating my time then feel free to, errr, delay him a little.

Re: 1/2 marathon time for mara

Ran 1:23:04 and had to walk for about a minute with bad stitich at 7 miles. Sneaky feeling the course was a touch short, but the organiser said he paid to have it measured....

It's a pb so i'll take it!!! Felt like it was hard work with heavy legs from the start so hopefully a taper will have me really going well. I'm relearning that road running is so bloody intense, there's no hiding place once you start to tire. The mile marker splits tell all - mentally i find that really tough.

Pleased with run but not sure about sub 3 tho, will think on...

Re: 1/2 marathon time for mara

I prefer to use HM x 2.1 which is in line with times two plus 8 to 10 minutes for a three hour marathon runner. But I find it is more accurate for how you're running at the time, especially if sub three would be a bit of struggle given current fitness

My best HM was set well before I stepped up to the marathon, but the last half I did before my PB of 2-38-40 was 73-52 which is a relatively poor + 11 minutes but I was aiming at 2-34 at the time and I think if anything I peaked too early with a 1-55 '20' in the build up (2-30 pace)

Anyway I'd say using my method a 3-00-00 marathon runner would look at 85-42 for a half as an equivalent run.
Hoping for a far more successful 2009
