    Friendlier Fell Runners

Like evryone else, i'm sure, i've run in Road races of various lengths and same for fell races. What I've noticed is that at fell races , people are friendlier , more open , less stressed about 'Doing a time' . Is this imagination, or has anyone else noticed this?

Pretty friendly yes, when compared to road runners, but I think ultra runners are the friendliest of all. There seems to be more of a camaraderie, general respect and willingness to help each other, I love the atmosphere in ultras. I suppose as most run very much for the challenge and are competing with themselves more than other people.

    Re: Friendlier Fell Runners

someone said to me as I was staggering up a hill in my last fell race, and she came past me - not that much faster "No one forced you to enter this race!" I thought that was well nasty but I realise it may not have been meant as it came across.

Other than that I think you're all quite a nice bunch really

I agree with the point made about Ultras, did my first last year and it's like the feeling at the Mallerstang Yomp. At the Ultra it seems the mindset is if i'll finish and that people are more important than the 'race'. Generally the harder the race and the longer , the friendlier the runner, must be an equation out there for a mathemetician .Are winter races friendlier?
