    The Mile

I'm running a mile time trial tonight with the club. Last time I ran a mile was probably 30years ago at school. Bearing in mind I've only got 4hours until the start has anyone got any tips, suggestions or hints so that I can:

    1. do a respectable time (by my standards)

    2. enjoy it!

    3. not get injured!!

Well, any time you run will be a PB as you haven't done it before - very little chance of you enjoying it I would think!

My two penneth would be to do a really thorough warm up with some short bursts of speed mixed in, and then plenty of stretching just before the race.

    Good luck

Run like hell and don't stop till you get to the finish. Sounds like hell. I'd like to have a go when I get rid of this flu!

Start steady and run within yourself, keep winding it up, you will get to your max HR after about three and a half minutes and you should be able to maintain that speed for another two minutes and yes do a good ten minute warm up, when you set off, don't panic, if you start too fast you will be dead on your feet after the three minute mark.
    Good luck Derby
    PS
No pressure but most runners in Addingham can do a six minute mile so lets know you result and don't let the village down.

Actually enjoyed it immensely this evening (the fact the route was seriously downhill in the main helped) and I did 5mins35secs, so village pride is intact Big Compass! Ian Holmes won in 4mins10secs and I very strongly doubt I'll ever get within a minute and a half of him in a race again!
