Out Sunday 2nd Nov, 9.30'ish from Snoopys layby, reccy out to Crowden n' return via Tooleyshaw moor....
Consider yourself lightly; consider the world deeply.
Sssh. Don't tell everybody.
There is no new route
Unless I am told different by the landowners, the only stipulation is for runners to go through the 2 checkpoints, what you do between is up to you as long as it does not jeopardise the future of the event (don't p**s the locals off).
The only request I have had, so far, is from United Utilities for us to avoid their newly developing grass around Soldiers Lump, this means going about another 30 metres past the point where a lot of folk branch off the haed for Crowden Little Brook.
The significant land marks to look for are the 2 sizeable "ponds" that you would turn off the paving slabs as you reach them, this would take you over about 10 metres of new grass.
Go beyond the "ponds" by about 5 metres to where a small "cairn" is on the right hand side of the slabs, look left at this point and you will see a trod running roughly in the direction you want.
After 50 metres (ish) another trod crosses the one you are on, this is the one you would have ben on if you had turned off the slabs before the "ponds". Turn right on this new trod and you will get to the, whats left of, stile at the top of Little Brook.
The route described above will avoid us treading any new grass.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Andy
Are the 2 checkpoints the same as previously?
Just done the anticlockwise loop from Crowden to Black Hill, my brand new squeaky clean innov330s have been well and truly indoctrinated with a dive waste deep into a peat bog on Tooleyshaw moss. Running solo so no one to enjoy the moment with. Needless to say I stank for the rest. Met a pal on the down route doing geological testing - small world the peaks. Weather a little inclement, but the new smock was more than up to it.
I'll be recce-ing lower 1/3 tomorrow or saturday and middle 1/3 (Bleaklow) sunday morning from Glossop.
I'm new to the competitive side of this sport and the forum. Whats the etiquette for discussion of routes and terrain? And Is it wrong to hope for snow?
Fantastic day for it, if a tad blowy and wet! Always interesting on Tooleyshaw. I'd imagine the stream crossings up to and over BH would be tremendous today.
I'll be out on Sunday am from Torside but unsure as to how early as yet (prob first light).
Etiquette? What's that? No probs to start a post or discussion. Most of us I guess have subsctribed to the thread.
Be sure to come and say "hello" on Tanky's day.
Toodle-oo!
J
A large dose of wind, heavy cloud, lashing of rain, wet bog everywhere and a pinch of hail Awesome. Not a day to forget to put spare trousers in the car.
