In the Lakes it sems that charging for parking; restricting parking with yellow lines; and physically closing off parking places are all on the increase and imoh are part of the drive to commercialise the outdoors.

Apart from having to pay them at all when I'm a local resident, the thing that pees me off most about them is the way in may places the charge is for a day. If I'm on the way to/from work and I want to stop off for a quick hour's run I pay the same as for a whole day out.

Apologies if I have misunderstood the position with membership and parking for free; I will sort that aspect out also and revise the note on the website.
Members and life members can park for free with sticker or membership card on display.

Charges are £3.00 for 2 hours, £4.00 for 4 hours and £5.00 all day.

Text on website updated to reflect this.

The National Trust are a charity that is independent of the government so I suspect they can do whatever they like with their assets, so long as it falls within their charitable aims and members wishes (and is legal!).
