Best song ever from the 80s

Danberts recent post got me going.

My music collection is scarily huge. Scary because I am running out of things to collect - more music than obscure sports books even.

There's The Smiths 'How Soon I now', Lotus Eaters ' first picture of you; , Adventures 'Send my heart' , 'Brilliant Mind by Furniture, and lots of others to consider - but i can't decide between these 2 awesome gems from opposite ends of the spectrum.

So what jollities from the 80s make you stop whatever you are doing....

How about 'The Mighty Wah!' Story of the Blues? - still got the 12" EP - classic.

My favourite Smiths songs are either: The Queen is Dead, There is a Light the Never Goes Out, Girl Afraid, Some Girls are Bigger than Others, This Night Has Opened My Eyes

    Other suggestions:
Echo & the Bunnymen - Lips Like Sugar, Gods Will Be Gods, Over You, In Bluer Skies
Pixies - Bone Machine, Tony's Theme
Depeche Mode - Everything Counts (I'll just put in one suggestion per band now, though there are loads more you could pick)
Heaven 17 - We Don't Need This Fascist Groove Thing
The Cure - Boys Don't Cry
    Human League - Love Action
    The Specials - Ghost Town
Grace Jones - Pull up to the Bumper
Adam & the Ants - Don't be Square (Be There)

And some suggestions with no irony at all - I love them:
Nik Kershaw - Wouldn't it be Good
Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World

Go Betweens - Streets of Your Town
    Prefab Sprout - Appetite
It's Immaterial - Driving Away From Home
Talking Heads - Nothing But Flowers

    And two more guilty pleasures:

Bruce Hornsby - Every Little Kiss
Matt Bianco - Say It's Not Too Late or Don't Blame it on that Girl (had a best of many years ago when I wasa whippersnapper on cassette...good times!)

    New Order - Blue Monday

Pretty ground breaking at the time and still sounds great today.

Since i was born in the 90's, i have limited knowledge of 80's tunes.
But one i do know is Kate Bush - Running up that Hill.

Not the best song, just the only song i know from the 80's ha

It did come out as an A side later on. When you think how short most Smiths tracks were....and then 'How Soon Is Now' came along.

The 80s music book I'm doing is still a way off unfortunately !

Soft Cell - worth checking out is the just re-issued 2cd 'deluxe' edition of NON STOP EROTIC CABARET - which includes NON STOP EXOTIC DANCING and lots of other 12" mixes and b sides. the 12" version of 'What' still sounds as good as it ever did.
