Have a look in 'races' at the 'southern races' thread. There are a few events organised on Box Hill by different people. Good luck Steff with getting out onto the hills.
Thanks LHL
Have just found a local hash based at Winchester - worth a try! Struggling to work out where box hill is. Put it down to lack of oxygen from hard training session!
Looking forward to getting out in those hills.
Stef
Box Hill is Surrey, near Dorking IIRC
Hoping for a far more successful 2009
Hi Stef,
I run with Southampton RC too.
I am keen to do some fell running. Almost entered the Snowdon race last year.
I think the prblem for us is there are no real fells locally (not absolutley sure how many meters of climbing over what distance makes a fell run, maybe its not that scientific)
However I have been out on some reeces and I think there is fun to be had in the Meon Valley also up around Winchester.
Quite a few club members ran the Clarendon half and full Marathon last year which was off road and had a few hills. There is also the Meon Valley plod comming up although I suppose these are more trail runs.
Like Steve said the island could also be a good place to go and with off peak ferry prices from around £35 it would be a cheap day out with a car full.
Anyway im sure we could get a few people together for a run in the hills if you fancy it, im normally down at wide lane for the Tuesday intervals.
Graeme
Hi Graeme
I usually run with the Tuesday and Thursday group that meet at the uni sports ground near the airport, which I think is wide lane. I would definitely be interested in some hilly running, and car sharing to events. Ask Eryl or Nigel to point me out, or you could email.
I have a place in the London Marathon so I need to get the mileage up for that, I'm also going to enter the Edale Skyline and will be looking for other fell races to do, as well as mountain marathons.
I've been out hashing with the Winchester and Hursley groups over Christmas - great fun. The red dress run was an experience!
Stef
Thats good, you found a friend Ginge...pint waiting for ya in the virtual pub!
Hi Stef,
Thats the one. I should be down tomorrow night if I can shake off the man-flu, ill get Eryl to point me in your direction.
You sound like you have a good level of fitness. Im probably only good for 12-14 miles at the moment.
The hashing sounds fun, especially if you get to wear dresses
In the meantime im off to the pub, I believe Nirvanabliss has one behind the bar for me
Graeme
Hi Graeme
I'm amazed you turned out for reps in -5 deg freezing cold!
Check out the Winchester hash http://www.worthyh3.co.uk/
Hursley at http://www.hursleyh3.co.uk/
also Haunch of Venison http://www.hovmrch3.co.uk/
Enjoy!
Stef
Hi Steph,
I thought it was pretty cold. Im surprised how many people showed up.
Last night I went out and there was Ice everywhere! Come back unscathed luckily.
Thanks for the links, I will have a look at them im my lunch hour.
Im going to get a map at the weekend. I think the OS31 covers from Winchester, East to the Meon Valley (although not quite as far at Butser Hill))
Ill bring it down on Tuesday or email you a potiental route.
Graeme
