    wooly jumpers..runners?

Having seen the pic of Anna Pichrtova, resplendent in a vermillion cableknit jumper, in the summer fellrunner, I got thinking.

I wore an old wool jumper for my last 2 runs and it seemed far more comfortable than my usual hoodie outer layer as I warmed up. And better for the environment at the end of it's life......

Does anyone else use wool training clothes, and how do they rate them?? What about in the rain?

Wool's the way forward! Ever seen a cold looking sheep?

I've never had cold feet in navy Hilly socks and keep meaning to try a merino base layer

I have used a Howies merino nbl light. Similar performance to a Helly but don't dry as fast, not as tough and smells of damp sheep when wet(Derby tup may like this).

I love my merino base layers... there is no going back to the artificial stuff for me. They are light, warm and don't stink, not even after a few times of wearing them out running/cycling!!!

Ha! Anna Pichrtova, resplendent in a vermillion cableknit jumper Fellrunner 2008! - I think you'll find your very own daleside was in an issue of fellrunner back in oooh - 2007 (accompanying the welsh boys on the dragons back) in a leaf green polar neck wooly jumper - this in fact was merino and from TK Maxx. It lasted a season till the the effect of the rain and sweat, heating up as I ran, shrank it like a hot wash. Especially in the back. It was lovely and warm and great for running while it lasted though.

mtb'ers and to some extent roadie's ( eg www.Rapha.somthin ) have been using wool jumpers as base and outerlayers as a modern resurgence of the material....merino and 'sport' wool

i have some windproof wool garments for cycling..very good within a limited weather window..ie i hardly wear them

my local sport shop has a range of wool running jumpers...( bourne sports )

i'd guess much less abrasive towards the skin, but need more careful care and generally more expensive
