For some inexplicable reason I have entered this race. Has anyone done it before who can pass on any helpful tips (other than "train"). Much appreciated.

Grok on!
No ..... though I did apply to do the ten in ten but was turned down. However in hindsight that may well be a blessing.
Hoping for a far more successful 2009
The second half is harder than the first and not just because you are more tired - the hills are much longer, rolling rather than short and sharp.
If you can beat 3 hours you'll be in good company (with me)

I did this race in 2007 and absolutely loved it. I did it a month after doing the London Marathon which I didn't like at all. The first half down to Newby Bridge is really good and nicely undulating but the second half feels like one long sweep of a hill up the A591 (I think). Was cruising still at 20 miles, had had enough at 25!! The only bad thing I felt about the race was that there seemed to be loads of taffic on the A591 and I kept seeing the same cars reappearing - they were obviously following their friends / family around to cheer them on and supply drinks etc.., but not great from a car fumes perspective.
A great race though and if I was going to do a road marathon again this would be it.

I can do down hill
OK it's a deal BA, let's cross the finish line together only you'll be on your second lap! Thanks for the advice re the profile, will "save myself" for the second half and take up as much of the promised kendal mintcake as possible. I did choose this one for the views, much better than buildings and stuff. Thanks again.
Grok on!
Hello from a not-so-sunny Kendal.
I just joined because I too am not sure why I'm signed up for this race. It'll be my first marathon in 10 years. My training started this week and I've already got some heel pain. *gulp*
Oh well... hopefully see you at the finish in May!
