    Newland's Round Recce

Totally unconnected with the demise of the TWA, and in no way to be construed as two fingers to any officious land owners, myself and a group of "friends" will be having an informal timed recce of the Newlands Round.

Wheezing Donkey will wave us off, and be on hand to record finishing times for those who are interested. £5 to the Village Hall Restoration Fund to show we're the kind of people who wish to support the local community. I'm told there may be "support" at Newlands Hause.

everybody and anybody welcome, provided they're confident and capable of getting round!

Oh yeah, and Easter Saturday seems the most convenient day for all these frolics. Obviously no a race, so not covered by any insurance, etc, etc.

Right, start at 11.45 just after the start of the AW, in order not to interfere with the running of that race. By the time the first runner gets to Robinson, the marshalls for the AW should be off the hill, so avoiding confusion.

I'll be hanging round the village hall collecting money for the hall fund. This is because we're making the point that we're supporting the local community, what ever the view of the National Trust. The original TWA had the support of all the local farmers and commoners, but the NT declined permission, stating that the FRA did not support the race (not the case). The NT intend to licence all fell races on their land, and appear to be taking an anti fell racing stance. This has obvious repercussions for all fell racers, and there needs to be some early signal of opposition. Given the support of the local farmers, this is a traditional high handed action by a landowner given a 21st century twist.

The route will follow the original TWA, will start at 11.45, and started and finished by WD. We'll by counted through Newlands Hause, but all other checkpoints will be unmanned. It is independent of, and nothing to do with the Anniversary Waltz.

I might have to try and get some child cover for this one.

Is it going at one pace or every man for themselves, but obviously not race pace?
