Great books, no doubt about that - real works of art. Dubious bloke though and there's no doubt he'd have hated fellrunning, and fell races in particular.

THought the programme on BBC4 was good, but ruined by the wife who could only comment that 'all the hills look the bloody same anyway' before falling asleep.

Whoa! Sense of humour bypass or what?!

Amazing how you've deduced that from one tongue in cheek comment from someone you've never met.

She fell asleep cos she thinks mountains are a bit boring and don't make great telly (also, her 18 mile road run earlier might have had something to do with it).

Mind you, she'd have had the stamina to stay awake if she was a bloke.

Incidentally, do Mrs ST's holiday plans include Styhead Pass this year, or are you having to sacrifice that on the altar of the BGR?

No, she'll be doing as she's told as usual, i.e. supporting me at Styhead during Borrowdale, supporting my BGR in June and getting my tea on the table STAT!

To be fair, I do the ironing.

    ST,

My missus fell asleep as well - said something this morning about old gentlefolk talking quietly and relaxing views of the countryside....zzz...zzz

Quite a good programme, I thought.

Can't see what any women would see in that miserable old buggar, but his widow's living in a nice pile now, did you see.

Neither me nor Mr DasAB fell asleep.
We were too mesmorised by the fantastic scenery.

They continue the thread with some of the walks on BBC4.

Made me want to put my coat on and get in the car to drive up there.

He did hate fellrunning. Said something about runners treating the fells as a gymnasium.

Every weeekend for 13 years. Commitment or what? I cant get a clear run of 3 weeks of weekends never mind 13 years.

If it counts for anything, I have pie and chips every friday.
