But will the local running club be a fell running club? Even Skipton AC run roads 100% of the time in the winter on their training nights and often in the summer too, especially if there are members training for marathons, half marathons and flaming 10Ks. At the other end of the spectrum the running club might be of those survival of the fittest set ups where you can feel left out if you're running slow.

    Re: Beginners' Meets?

I live in North Sheffield, and am fortunate that if I run out of my front door I can cross the border of the Peak in about 40 mins!

As for clubs, well there are plenty about the Peak, foremost of which are the DPFR, but I personally would be very cautious about joining them at an early stage. Just looking at the results of their in-house races on their website is enough to make you realise that the standards (even at the back!) are high.

I think that leads to an overall point about fellrunning - at whatever level you do it at it's still a difficult business and although I take all the encouraging words and assurances about there being loads of slow people etc at face value, I suspect we are talking in relative terms.

But that's part of the er...fun.....isn't it? Having a crack at something most people don't even imagine is possible let alone desirable?

Anyway that's enough woffle.....anybody up for one, based Edale (easy to get to by car or train) in April or May?

It would be nice to have someone experienced along as well if poss.

And I think I did them all in one race once
What an advert for fell running, top post, Stolly, i salute you

I'd be up for it later on in May after I've recovered from the Fellsman (if I do it). Bit too busy before then though.

I might try and come along too but it probably depends on the date.
