    Brecon Beacons run suggestions

I'm popping down to Brecon for a quick flying visit, ie drive down, run, ale, get driven home, on the 16th & would like some route tips, I've done a search on here & quite fancy the Brecon Beacons 19 mile as suggetsed below,

    http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...brecon+beacons

Can anyone suggest anything better ??

    thanks in advance.

Yes, the Black Mountains race route is nicer... I will see if I can find it somewhere tomorrow night (old fashioned race, everything is done by hand, including the hand written results you get sent weeks after the race) But I must have worn my garmin when I did it, so I should be able to get you the route...

Or you could do the Fan dance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fan_dance_(exercise)

How long do you want to be out for?

Hanneke what are you on about, Brecon Beacons route is much nicer.. more rocks, less bog and none of the evil tussocky false-summitted hill of Satan that is Pen y Gadair

But but but... I looooooooooooooove Pen-y-gadair... even though I dislocated my shoulder falling off it once

And the bog that is the summit of Waun Fach, you got to just love it Nice route too, that, you could combine the Waun Fach and Mynydd Troed race routes as well, to make a nice run and take in the Black Mountains highest bog, erghm, summit of Waun fach

And I stay with my view, Black Mountains route is nicer

Mattg - If I was going to do this as a jaunt, I'd stay on the ridge all the way round to Waun Fach rather than following the race line down into the valley, over the stream and back up P-y-G - hard enough run without crucifying yourself with the climb - an advantage is that when you reach the road head at Grwyne you can bale out and miss the climb onto Bal Mawr and down again - be warned, it can be a bit tricky heading back down through the forest.

A great part of the world - and so are the Beacons (to keep Longdogs happy - how's it going Helen?)

Yeah echo comments re: forest. Last time i was there i was scrambling through undergrowth when i found a half dead sheep being eaten alive by maggots . None of that on the lovely Brecon peaks- i'll agree to differ with you Hanneke!

If you saw my avatar raiding the pub bins on Sat you must have been mistaken.

Things going well BW thanks for asking. How about you?

I saw a dead cow on a run and it traumatised me for days. I did get quite close wondering what it was.......

You could always try the chicken game they play in Red Sky at Morning with the dead horse.

Hmmm, done it twice now and never encountered any troublesome undergrowth
