    Oh sod it, I'll do the BGR abd be done with it, 42 tarns / swims whatever looks too hard - but then again, what an adventure.....!

    There may be a description in one of Harry Griffin's books, but I can't remember which one.

    There's a comment in "In Mountain Lakeland" about Colin Dodgson visiting every single body of water in the Lakes, some 438 in total Dunno how long he took.

    His best book for fell runners is "Long Days In The Hills". Chapter 6 is titled "Record Walks and Runs". It lists most of the the big fell runs and many of the most notable achievements by famous fell runners. First published in 1974 and republished in 1980 by Robert Hale. Its getting rather pricey now.
