The route follows the Ribble Way starting at the Ribblehead Viaduct and finishing in Preston.
Surely you would get more entries if you Start in Preston and finish at the viaduct

Possibly raise even more if individuals could enter. It's one of those routes I've had in mind to have a go at sometime (I used to live in Preston) but haven't quite got 'round to. I'd have had a go at this if I could just do it on my own (minimum fuss, etc.).

    Re: Ribble Way Challenge

Haven't got the route yet Al but having spoken to Roy and Jim it is flattish, downhill with a few undulations but no big climbs. We need a support vehicle ( for the rules) so it must cross roads
I hope that most is on footpaths- had enough of hard tracks and tarmac at Calderdale. If I find most is on roads I will be disappointed- surely not- if only for safety / traffic reasons

Will let you know when I know more

Good amount on grass, some tarmac and stone track. Couple of miles on road around Sawley and towards the finish. Due to the fact that we are supported ( I can do it now), depending where the check points are, thinking of taking road shoes for tarmac sections. Planning on 2 30mile recces hopefully. Talking to Jim and Roy on Tuesday and thought sub 15 is do-able.

    Re: Ribble Way Challenge

The route does wander away from the river at many points, so that is where the undulations come in. I have reccied the final 8 or so miles from ribchester where the route comes away from the river and there are many little up and downy bits. Also, and I think this will be one of the main factors to slow people down and p**s them off, will be the number of styles and gates to pass through.
In the reccie I mentioned above there are a few to find which are tucked away hidden by hedgegrowth.
I hope our team get there before dark or its a decent moonlit night.
    Could be more time lost.

    Re: Ribble Way Challenge

after further study of the maps there really does not seem to be too much running on the road at all.
a couple of miles at gisburn, a couple more south of clitheroe, a mile at ribchester, a further mile round the back of grimsargh (just before red scar woods) but then when you continue from the tickled trout at preston it is mostly on hard track/road to the docks where I am hoping thats the finish.
ps. does anyone know the exact start and finish.
    cheers

Have been checking the maps Jim- does it follow the R Way as marked 100%
Looks like a short steep nasty climb up the road fro Hothersall Lodge!
I've got newish 1:25000 for al but the first section
When you get the checkpoint grid refs let us know

yes, it is a little steep bit but only a couple of minutes walking as I have done it on my way home from work.
(thankfully we will not have to do the "river crossing" I had to do to get there)
