    Smile Decent digs in Rome????

    Howdy

Have any of you out there any recommendations for places to stay in Rome?
Heading there in July & need somewhere for me & the missus to rest our weary heads for a weekend, afore heading north.
My knowledge of Rome is (as yet) pretty much zip, but I'm told somewhere near the Colisseum would be about right.
Nothing toooo pricey (although realise that it wain't be cheap), but likewise nothing too scabby/tatty.
Any tips, advice, recommendations whatsoever would be much appreciated.

I always stay in a small studio appartment in Trastevere, but I doubt that is what you are looking for...

    Re: Decent digs in Rome????

I have turned up in Rome on a couple of occasions in high season and found somwhere to stay without any trouble (usually in the vacinity of the central station). Adds to the sense of adventure not pre-booking Expect loooooooooooooooooooooooong queues if you intend visiting the sistine chapel. I do not have a religious bone in my body but was blown away by it (the chapel not the queue). Don't think they do B&B either!

    I always stay here:

    Hotel Ranieri
Via XX Settembre 43 - Roma
    Phone - +39-06-4814467
    Fax - +39-06-4818834

Its walking distance from the train station and you can get the tram to the centre. But a ticket at the tobacconist and rmember to get it punched when entering the tram, else you could face a big fine.

Its a fantastic city. The vatican is well worth a trip round, really amazing. Incredible how much cash the catholic church must have fleeced from its hard up flock to make itself a palace. Colloseum is not worth going into, just look at it from the outside. Take comfy shoes!!
