    Halifax Help

    Ay-oop.

I work in Dean Clough, and have about an hour at lunch to run. Where do I go?

And no, not today. I've looked on Streetmap and Pepper Hill (got a dry ski slope if it helps) looks best, but doesn't look like it's got a path straight up: they all seem to wend round it.

Loads of streets nearby for hill sprints, but would like a bit of rough too for the odd stretch of my legs.

    All advice gratefully received.

Try Ogden Water just off A629 Keighley road, easy to get to from Dean Clough; venue for a number of fell races, parking available, lots of routes. Not particularly steep, but genuine fell + horrendous peat bog (not for lunchtime and can be avoided !!!) Watch out for speed cameras on the climb out of Halifax.
Otherwise try Savile Park; not steep, but grass, and easy parking.
Used to work at Shaw Lodge Mills on Shaw Lane, which was used by a lot of runners. Narrow, cobbles, and a dangerous rat run - not recommended.
Going downhill fast - until I fell over

Cheers guys. Is there anywhere I could get to running from Dean Clough? Once I'cve lost me parking space I'll never get it back! That's kind of why I was looking at Pepper Hill first off.

Try this The Hebble Trail, join it at the train station. www.calderdale.gov.uk

Ogden Water is lovely, but be careful. I had my car broken into there.

(which reminds me, it got broken into again a year later - which one of the 3 do you think DIDN'T get pinched
    a...an empty petrol can
    b...some very rusty jump leads
c...a box of books written by yours truly)

invest in explorer ol21 map(orange one)
pepper hill is good over to some of leg 5 of the calderdale way
head to shibden valley, some great little paths around there,
    or up to beacon hill,
    or along valley/canal to copley/greetland
plenty of intresting little industrial paths/snickets beside the railway.
let us know how you get on

Cheers for the tips. I'll get hold of that map and start exploring those routes. Will share my exploits on here, no doubt.

Anorak, just goes to show that your book appeals to a better class of person!

    Gary

Dylan has covered some of your better options.

If you are intending to run from Dean Clough as your base, I'd probably look at trying to explore the Shibden Valley first. Maybe heading out of the back Dean Clough, up to Boothtown and over Ploughcroft and down in to the Shibden valley.

If you were looking for some runs on the way back home, Savile Park and over to Norland via North Dean woods is a good run to be had and something I do fairly regularly.

Or as others have suggested Ogden and over the back towards the Withens has some good options.

As you know its my patch, so if you need any more help feel free to PM me. I'm actually working over your way now in Accrington, so maybe we can get out for that run we talked about.

    Cheers Mike: PMd you.

Thanks all. Typical: I get back so's I can run regular, and then I'm not in the office for ages!

Two weeks in Birmingham coming up. After that I'll give some of these a try.
