The Pete Bland bumbag seems pretty good- only used it once- on Tanky's and really liked it. Will continue to use it. Previously (very briefly) used a Karrimor 'Limpet' thing which didn't live up to it's name and always used a small rucksack instead.

Will try carrying beer in it and see how it goes...

I've got a tiny little Body Glove rucksack. It barely holds more than a bumbag but I hardly notice I have it on. I have only trained with it on, but i reckon I might try racing with it on. If Lloyd Taggart can win races wearing one then there's no reason why.... but then he does also wear leggings on races where the temperatures aren't remotely cold.

Sometime I used to spend the whole race trying to readjust, tighten, loosen my bumbag. I could never decide whether to ahve it on hips or lower down, or higher up! Other times it went un-noticed.

    Re: Bum bag.

I can't run with a bum bag, tried it a few times and it ends up around my middle, maybe due to a few extra pounds round the hips i think, so i got a small omm rucksack and found it much more comfortable, and use the bladder with it instead of bottles. Can't advise on if its any good for racing though as i don't really do any, but very good on a long run.

I've got a Lowe Alpine bumbag that carries plenty but seems to make muscles ache in my lower back. My other bumbag is by Lifeventure, similar size to the LA one but with a central cut-out for a bottle. Same capacity but no back pain! (can someone explain this to me??)

    Re: Bum bag.

I've been using a Karrimor Raid 5 for ages, but it always bugs me as it's very difficult (particularly when cold and wet) to get a folded OS map in there along with hat, trousers, cuddly toy etc.

It also has a tendency for a bottle* to fall out.

I think I may splash out on a "Lifeventure Pro Runner" which:
    1. seems to have more space or is a better shape or something, despite still being 5l
    2. has nice little lacky bands for holding bottles
    3. has a name that sounds really hard and will make me a proper runner
    4. is in the sale in Blacks, next to the pasty shop.

    Re: Bum bag.

I'm with Baggins & David - I bought my R & R bumbag in 1984 and it's still doing the business. I bought one of their Ridge Runner GT 28L rucksacks at the same time - that had to go back to have some stitching sorted ( for free ) in 1995 after a tough week on the Black Cuillins. Sadly R & R seem to be more Rock than Run these days and do not appear to offer their own brand bumbags & rucksacks any longer. In a similar vein PB appears to have discontinued his own brand rucksack - is it a shrinking market?
