    Equipment for a MM

I'm wanting to have crack at a mountain marathon and have been looking at the cost for all the equipment.

Has anyone got any recomendations for sleeping bags and tent that won't break the bank?

Or does anyone know where you can pick up a good tent second hand?

    Cheers

Have a look at the alpkit website, http://www.alpkit.com/ They do a lightweight sleeping bag, the pipedream, depends how light you want to go, I'm not convinced it's that light though.

Borrow a tent and sleeping bag? Worked for me for years!

Which MM and how warm do you want to be?

    Have you seen this article?

It's who to borrow one off, I can't think off hand who might have the equipment.

    Which article?

My solution has always been to find a partner who has a decent lightweight tent!

I remember a very funny article a couple of years back by someone who used a £20 job from Argos - probably not a good idea.

However, I do understand that some people have successfully used the Coleman Raid, which is only about £70 and weighs around 1kg. No personal experience though so this is NOT a recommendation.

I have looked at lightweight tents on ebay, but the winning bids often seem to end up ridiculously close to the new prices.

I agree, but unless your going for a top position, older heavier stuff won't make much difference. You could ask on the sales/wants - loads of people on here must have redundant kit. Lots of nice light, expensive gear has come out recently so people must have their old tents/sleeping bags.

As we borrowed until recently we only have the one tent (unless you're willing to carry an 8lb tent). Decathlon have some good cheap gear that does the job.

Useful stuff on here....I'm fancying a go at the Saunders this year.

So what would be considered a "reasonable" weight for a tent? I've already got a North Face Tadpole 2-man tent I use for backpacking. Would folks think that was too heavy? (I think it's official weight is either 1.8kg or 2.1kg)
