Thread: Hard run - feeling ill?

Unhappy Hard run - feeling ill?

Does anyone else feel ill after a hard run? I have been running for about 6 years now going from strength to strength however over the last 12 months or so either after a race or a hard training session I have been feeling ill. After a fell race I obviously am hungry but when I eat I just feel even worse and this feeling can last over night disrupting my sleep entirely - leaving me pretty tired the day after. Similarly I dont eat on club nights before running come home, shower and eat and once again feel ill. On club nights I am eating later usually about 8 - 8.30pm.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to manage this as its driving me up the wall!!!!!!!!

The discomfort is in my stomach - do you experience this too?

Hope someone can help - please!!!!

I often feel nauseous towards the end of short races but this is invariably when I have run a hard race, so doesn't bother me; I have been at the finish line and see runners throw up as they finish, so I don't think I'm the only one. I always thought the blood supply to the stomach slows down during hard exercise and that had something to do with it but I'm no expert on the physiology of it. Often get stomach cramps on long runs but just run through them. Idon't think stomach problems are at all rare anyway. Maybe try experimenting with eating patterns - maybe several light snacks during the afternoon when you are going to run? Good luck.

    I get this.
I find i generaly only get it when ive really pushed mysellf.
Penyghent this year for me was the worst ive ever felt after a race. I really had to push myself in the race because my legs didnt seem to want to work and over the last mile or two i was starting to feel ill.
Then i spent the rest of the night feeling pretty bad and i dont think i was 100% in the morning.

I find im fine when i go on a club run or general training run where its been a comfortable pace.

I was fine the night after Auld Lang Syne but i nearly fainted after i crossed the line - mainly because i set off like an idiot and then spent the next 5 miles dying....im going to do the same tactics this year though and see if i am any fitter than last year.
