Is this a good start for a fell novice?
Done lots of road but only a couple of fell races and want to get more into this wonderful sport.

In short… Yes
Friendly low key races, wide range of abilities and no route is really tough
Frequent but moderate workouts on a consistent basis are the key to success
Trog and i are Veterans of the North Yorks Moors races and I
totaly endorse his comments ,they are well organized and friendly..
However one word of caution ,but please do not let this put you off ,make sure you have a rough idea of the race route prior to racing, a lot of the races are only marked with tape to guide you so the more you know of the course the better.
I am sure ,once you start the series you will run most of them culminating in the classic Guisborough moors race, just get out there and do it !!
I did 7 winter series races last year and endorse all comments. Climbs are never more than about 700 feet which is an excellent and realistic introduction to fell running and it's easy to get talking to people. Great scenery as well. What about the summer series?

Thanks for the encouragement all - I will be getting stuck and doing it.
Though I haven't seen the event dates posted yet on the nym site.

hello i usually do most of the winter series runs ending next april with moors race as mentioned before. you will get some good friends on this series. its the Esk ValleyFell Club that do it as i understand now. with the same key people organising it all.
six best runs count for the overall standings at end of series .hope to see you cheers.
Definitely have a go at some of these races. My first introduction to fell running was doing the Guisborough 3 Tops and it got me hooked. Incidentally, I was totally unprepared and had just gone along at the last minute with a friend from the club thinking I was doing a trail race. I saw Roseberry Topping and said...at least we aren't going up that....it was only as I was asked if I needed a map and if I had spare clothing that it dawned on me what I was letting myself in for but it was brilliant. Great bunch of friendly people and some good runs. You can get the maps and route descriptions from the NYM website. Good luck.
