Hi,
I've recently been slavering over new Heart Rate Monitors, and I noticed that some come with foot pods. Has anyone tried using a foot pod across fells, and does it seem to give an accurate reading?
Any experiences?

Does it though? I thought that they used accelerometers which is essentially the same type of tech found in cruise missiles. I used to have a garmin footpod when I was a slave to exact mileage and that was usually just as accurate as my friends garmin GPS give or take a few hundred yds.
I find that the most accurate and fun way of working out mileage is with a program such as mapometer which also works out height gain. You've just got to remember where you've run!
Just another thought about foot pods and fellrunning...
is the foot pod waterproof?
I like the idea of going at the speed of a cruise missile. Would it be technically cheating to enter races with a cruise missile strapped to each foot?
So the result is inconclusive so far. Anyone used a foot pod for hill running?
If you get a SUUNTO then get the "mk 2", the mk 1 has an on/off button that will clog with mud, eventually packing up completely. The mk2 turns on automatically when it detects movement, the battery life & attachment method are much better as well.
i had a polar with a foot pod, found it was accurate if i calibrated around a running track, but it had to be calibrated for different shoes if you wanted accuracy so it was a lot of time setting up, but it was very accurate off raod. only thing about using off road is knocking it on stones/rocks or it getting caught in some vegitation. i lost my foot pod on a local cross country training route in the thick grass, altho miraculously i found it abt a year later when the veg had died back. wldnt buy one again, use a gramin now
Great - thanks for the info. I'll look at Garmin then.
Cheers,
