Bianchi??? Whatever happened to, "More bang for your bucks with a Boardman"?
I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!

The headset is assembled, it came with one. I'm looking to buy a stem, but was confused by the steerer tube OD. Someone at works has confirmed it's 1 1/8".

I'm pondering on wheels now, HB7800 and modern Open Pro, or Mavic Ksyrium wheelset. One is period, one will look better and cut through the air better. Hmmmmm....

Have some of the mavics on my Genesis croix de fer. A noticeable upgrade from the original Alex rims and virtually bombproof.

Thankyou for your input, PeteS. I fear the thread is getting waywardly directed by so-called sockpuppets using irrelevance grenades again, all pontificating about cars and budget bikes, so i will now attempt to get us back on track.

    This is the frame:

I got all this DA7800 gear for it for 500 quid off ebay:

Right, i hope that feast of images has quashed the uprising, and we can now get back to business.

Question: When would you choose 36h wheels and not 32h? There are some HB7800s on ebay, but they're 36h. (Ksyriums would look nice though)

32 spokes should be more than adequate, many might say OTT, for such a machine and the type of roads/riding that you should be doing on it.

I have;- 32 spoke, hand built wheels (STX-RC/Exal LX17 ) on my old 'crosser. I don't race on it but have given it plenty of abuse on the Pennine Bridleway without any issues, they're still spot on.

36 spoke hand built wheels (XT/Exal DC19 ) on my winter / on & off road touring bike purely because of the potential for carrying heavy luggage.

Also 36 spoke hand built wheels (Ultegra 6700/Rigida Crina) on my summer sportive bike - mainly because of the back country, potholed lanes that we frequent on day rides with the CTC group - but I wish I'd gone for 32 spoke with Exal XR2 rims, they would have been adequate and more in keeping with the overall character of the bike.
