    Talking Bumbag expertise needed

Whilst running Borrowdale this year I had a very, very bad moment going over Green Gable and down into Honister. My blood sugar level ceased to exist and I just ran out of gas big style. This was all my bumbag's fault though and I therefore need to get my hands on one that's a little more helpful and eager to look after me.

Basically my bumbag doesn't have any external pouches or netted bits for holding drinks and food so, for me to eat snacks or take a drink, I have to

    loosen the bumbag belt
twist the bumbag from rear facing to front facing
    unzip the bumbag
take out a drink and snacks
    consume them
then reverse the whole process and put it all back

Because this eats away ooooh about 30 seconds of my valuable time while in a race, for some reason I seem to soldier on and choose not to eat and drink at regular intervals. I mean I can't be fiddle faddling losing seconds all the time and, in any event, 'bonking' is fun and choosing not to keep my energy levels high adds so much more challenge and adversity to the race.... not to mention at least 20 minutes to my finishing time at borrowdale.

So I need a smallish to medium sized bumbag with a drinks pouch and maybe a bit of netting for snacks or gels. When merrylegs overtook me and left me for dust at borrowdale he had a quite nice one I think but I never did catch up with him to find out more.

Expert advice needed. I'm fed up by being continually let down by shoddy and not very pro-active equipment

The OMM one does the job, usually Although I do have one of those Stolly and mine was misbehaving very badly as didn't look after me at Borrowdale either....I threatened to take him the the 'shelter' and swap him for a different one if he didn't buck his ideas up....he's on strike 3

Bit of personal thing I suppose, but i've not yet been let down by this one: http://www.inov-8.com/Products-Detai...050973012&L=26. It's got loads of room inside the main bit for windproofs etc, has mesh zip side pockets for easy access grub, and I've also added the inov8 horizontal water bladder thingy so I can easily get the pipe to my mouth while running.

Gear is such fun isn't it ??

This is the newer version of the one I run with. It's what I use on all the longs inc TT and it just takes every thing.
The bottle holder is the only thing missing, I've put the bungee thing on top of mine with a bit of craftyness.

It will hold a semi full .7l bottle but a full one is prone to bounce out. It did a cracking job at the Trial though. when full I carried it in my hand to rink from when it was low it went back on my BB.

Theres also a useful clip for keys and compass so you don't lose them.

Thanks FFTF. I don't do bladders though - maybe its me chewing the ends or something but I always suffer from 'leaky teats' . Anyway they weigh tons and given that I probably weigh a stone more than I should do the last thing I need is extra load. Typically I'm a no drink man for a 90 minute run, a one bottler for runs up to 3 hours and a two bottler beyond that. If I then get thirsty its all down to streams - and they're not always particularly helpful either!

Fair enough... I on the other hand sweat like the proverbial pig when running resulting in my calves cramping up in the last couple of miles of longer runs, so I carry loads of water to compensate. I guess i don't mind too much looking like i've had a 'bladder control' problem

Good luck with whatever you go for and hope it behaves better than the current one

    I use this

    http://www.inov-8.com/Products-Detai...6&P=5050973032

Changed the bottle to a shorter stubbier bottle (hi 5 one from up and running I think) so it then has a lower centre of gravity and therefore less bounce.

Put food in one pocket and rubbish in the other. Got a nice little system working with it!
