    FRA Navigation Course

This weekend I went on the FRA Navigation course in Elterwater and it was brilliant. I just wanted to say thanks to all those that gave up their time to help out and especially Margaret for all her organisation.

It was a great weekend and I learned alot. Well worth doing if you need a confidence boost or just have no idea what you're looking at when you see all those wiggly lines on a map...

It was very satisfying being able to navigate my way around 10 checkpoints on Sunday having not really understood what I was looking at on Friday night.

    Great weekend!

    Re: FRA Navigation Course

I would just like to second Random's comments about the fellrunning course. I also took part and thought it was great. Really well run, good fun and the instructors, all volunteers, were knowledgeable, helpful and a good laugh. They never made me feel stupid even when I had the compass upside down!

It has totally inspired me to develop my fell running and I'm desperate to get back out and practise what I've learnt.

A big thank you to Margaret, Steve, John and all of the tutors for their hard work and enthusiasm and thanks also for patching me up when I fell and gashed my knee (yet again).

ps. Chris...dropping the tick in Andy's tea...are you sure it was an accident?

A definate accident, honest! I didn't mean the tick to drown, amazed that Andy finished his tea after I fished it out, he must have been thirsty. Sorry Andy
Hope the knee is improving Hes, and as Navigator pointed out, we didn't lose anybody, but one or two did evade the radar on odd occassions on Sunday by re-locating when we least expected it. Well done to everyone for competing on the Sunday, I know it took a lot of courage for some to even start, it can be daunting setting off on your own for the first time.

A good insight into what the course is like is told in an old fellrunner mag by Swoop. It was a good article. Maybe last year or the year before.

    Re: FRA Navigation Course

One side effect of the course has come to light...I seem to be having a recurring dream about wandering through marsh surrounded by a circle of identical knolls...luckily my new skills mean it's easy to spot a cirlcle of knolls on the map so I have managed to escape each time!
