    Middleton Arndale

It's like dawn of the dead, full of pregnant teenagers and scruffy birds walking around in house coats and pyjamas.

Big mooses walking around in pyjamas with big fluffy slippers on a Sunday afternoon is not good, if it were stunnas in baby doll nighties, I'd be all for it but it isn't.

Shouldn't you be getting fit for xc Danbert, instead of hanging around in shopping centres

Getting fit - are you implying that the Rochdale Rocket has let things slip

    Re: Middleton Arndale

The name Arndale comes from the two founders Arnold Hagenbach (a baker turned business man) and Sam Chippendale (an estate agent) who were inspired by the big malls in the USA and brought the concept to the UK. Each Arndale became the largest shopping centre in Europe and Luton's centre had this status before being upstaged by the Arndales in Wandsworth and Manchester.

I wonder at which points Middleton and Nelson were adjudged the biggest in the world?

I think that's quite apt as the only shops left now are a bakers and an estate agents isn't it?

Rest assured Witton - The Rochdale Rocket will be running proudly in club vest and shorts over the muddy meadows, boggy woodlands and sodden hills of the North West countryside very soon.

To get really geeky on the subject, Britain's first Arndale centre was opened in 1961, up in the North East; possibly Jarrow or Jedburgh.

When I first ready Danbert's opening post "Middleton Arndale" I thought that he was referring to some sleepy village in the Dales; then the penny dropped - the Arndale Centre in Middleton.

'twas Jarrow - http://wapedia.mobi/en/Arndale_Centre. Coincidentally it was the subject of a question on University Challenge last night - neither team knew the answer

I got the answer, but only because I'd seen this thread!
