    How fast...?

Went out for a bit of a shakedown run today (pf seems ok, physio booked for next week), i had my polar gps unit on and apparently on the way back down off the hill i hit 18.5mph, is this possible? the unit seems to be fairly accurate as ive used it along side my bike computor....What does everyone else get???

I'd say that is achievable yes.

Usain Bolt can run about 23mph.

I tend to look at mine in mi/min. Fastest I've had downhill is c4min/mi which is 15mph. Would only need to knock another 45sec/mi off to hit the 18.5mph figure.

3.15min/mi downhill? Reckon that's doable by a quicker runner.

Without knowing the instrument details (samping, integration rate) I would suggest that a hand held or wrist worn gps could add the arm movement to the body movement and give false informarion. Try attaching it to another part if your body and see if it reads differently.

    Re: How fast...?

Perfectly reasonable for a short distance, I bet most people can hit that sort of speed on the flat for a few meters. 18.5mph is about 8m/s, or 12.5s for 100m and there are plenty of runners well under that (sadly I'm not one of them!)

Me neither. I remember doing the 100m at school, came in about 16 seconds! But none the less, I could paste them all on the long distance

Me too ukhursty used to really annoy a lad who ran for Hallamshire Harriers and trained all the time and i would just turn up for cross country in the p.e. lesson and beat him. Not by much but still did drove him spare.

Its all to do with fast and slow twitch fibres in the muscles I think.

Fast twitch for sprinters release energy very fast, and slow twitch release energy slowly over a sustained period. Something you are born with.

I may be reciting this wrongly from my GCSE P.E, if so, some one correct please!
