    The Home of Fellrunning

I was posting on the 40 th Anniversary thread suggesting a race could be created or a challenge whichever everyone would prefer set in the spiritual home of Fell racing. Where would that be in your opinion ?. I would be interested to know everyone's opinions on where that would be and would a new ongoing race be a good way of celebration ?.

I think the term "fell" is more of a Northern thing that I would associate with the Lakes . But , I could be wrong

I like the idea of the race .

I really don't think any one place should be considered the spritual home of fell running; each location, north, south, east or weat brings with it all its own challenges and idiosyncrasies.

Like the race idea. But the only home for fell running is right on my doorstep. As soon as I put on my fell shoes and I trot off in my own little world.

As a Derbyshire lad living 'abroad' in Cumbria, I've always felt Langdale ticked all the boxes. Dramatic scenery, ODG, easy car parking, camping on the spot etc.
A trot up England's highest maybe via Rossett Gill and back. Simple, an achievement and not too desperate. Allows for a bit of cameraderie too.

Fells and dales all over the north of England.
I know an octogenarian gamekeeper who says he used to run professionally around the shows. He was supported by a syndicate who used to bet on him. Says he never ran fells but I bet there was loads of village feast/gala/show running all over England and where there are fells they ran up them as that's the local terrain.
By the way he broke the 4 minute mile long before Bannister, because it's a mile from my school to Broom Hill Farm and he ran that in less than 4 minutes!

How about a compromise between the Lakes and the Dales.....The Howgills....big steep grassy fells covered in lovely short, well grazed fell turf. Just created for running on.
